Increasing Student Representation & Dialogue with the LSO
The Law Society will be considering two proposals to improve governance recently brought forward by the LSSO Advisory Board:1) the inclusion of student representation on a Convocation committee, and 2) making articling students voting members of the profession.
Building upon the collaboration between the LSSO and LSO staff, the LSSO Advisory Board worked with licensees to bring the two proposals to the Law Society Annual General Meeting. Approval at the AGM would have meant they would be moved to committee for consideration. To be flexible to the online format of this year’s AGM, the LSO Treasurer personally spoke with the LSSO and motion signatories to reach an agreement to move the ideas forward for consideration without a formal vote. Both proposals will now be considered by the Law Society Priority Planning Committee. The LSSO will continue to be an active part of the dialogue and discussion.
